Aristolochia gibertii belongs to the smaller members of the broadly variable labiata complex and therefore appears a lot like small-flowered morphs of Aristolochia esperanzae.

The taxonomy and relationship behind this species and A. esperanzae is not resolved at all yet and would be in heavy need of future investigations.
