Another accidential hybrid, this curious specimen with tiny flowers (4-5 cm!) I have been growing as A. malmeana which is closely related to A. esperanzae from Brazil and Bolivia.

As the 3D-shape of typical A. malmeana flowers appears very different to this specimen it seems very likely it actually represents a hybrid with another closely related and small-flowered species, e.g. A. giberti. Apparently the mother plant of A. malmeana had been kept near a flowering specimen of another species leading to cross-pollination.
